Form I-9 Revised and Released for Implementation

Form I-9 Revised and Released for Implementation

Earlier this week, the Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) released an update to the Employment Eligibility Verification form, or the I-9. Employers must use the revised version of the form starting January 22, 2017 (dated 11/14/16N).

One change asks for “other last names used” instead of “other names used” in Section 1. Changes also include:

  • Prompts to ensure information is entered correctly
  • Ability to enter multiple preparers and translators
  • Dedicated space for additional information
  • Supplemental page for preparer/translator

Also, the instructions have been separated from the form itself and includes information on each individual field.

With these changes, it also becomes easier to complete on a computer, including on-screen instructions and drop-down boxes.

For more information on the new Form I-9, please visit the USCIS website. As an employer, you may continue to use the 03/08/13N dated form until January 22, 2017.
