Online Tool Released for Understanding Medical and Disability Leave
The Department of Labor (DOL) recently released a new online tool for medical- and disability-related leave so employers and employees can better understand the policies. Managing leave is difficult, especially in small businesses where you may not have an HR representative well-versed in the details.
This online tool takes into account the kind of business, workforce size and if the company is receiving federal assistance. After answering these questions, the user is directed to applicable employment laws. The Family Medical Leave Act is included in the tool and explains the stipulations of leave for employees based on their own health or for significant family need. The Americans with Disabilities Act is also included along with other discrimination laws.
