Pennsylvania Launches Path to Pennie Program

Pennsylvania residents without insurance have an incentive to file their income taxes ASAP. The state Department of Revenue has created a program this tax season called Path to Pennie, designed to connect uninsured Pennsylvanians with health insurance offered through Pennie, Pennsylvania’s health insurance marketplace.

Tax filers can indicate that they, their spouse, and/or their dependents are uninsured using a new tax form, REV-1882.

First of all, what is Pennie?

Pennie is Pennsylvania’s answer to Healthcare.gov, where residents can shop for and enroll in individual health coverage. Pennie is not an insurance company.

What if I “check the box”?

Those who indicate on the one-page Form REV-1882 that they are uninsured and want more information will receive a notice in the mail or by email from Pennie with instructions on how to apply for coverage. This includes a unique access code to open an account on Pennie and a 60-day special enrollment period to enroll in coverage. The tax filer will also see the estimated amount of financial assistance they may be eligible to receive based on the information shared by the Department of Revenue.

The Form can be submitted electronically, fax the form to 1-866-350-8233, email it to customermatters@pennie.com, or mail it to:

Pennie stresses that it will not share your information with any third parties. It should be noted that filling out this form is not the same as applying for health insurance.

Tax filers will begin receiving notices from Pennie in April 2022. If you wish to enroll in coverage prior to April 1, you should call the Pennie contact center at 1-844-844-8040.

And a friendly reminder: The deadline to file state and federal income taxes is April 15.
